The most commonly asked question is: why do I pay for all of August when I didn't move in until later in the month?
Agreements for the academic year is for 9.5 months, and there is one cost for that entire time. If you wish to pay monthly, we break those into 10 installments starting on July 1, and ending May 1st. A monthly installment does not pay for that month, but is just one payment to the total cost of a 9.5 month contract.
Agreements for the year round contracts are for 11.5 months, and there is one cost for that entire time. If you wish to pay monthly, we break those into 12 installments starting on July 1, and ending July 1st of the following year. A monthly installment does not pay for that month, but is just one payment to the total cost of a 11.5 month contract. Due to high demand the last 25% of license agreements available are year round.

What if I need to cancel my lease?
Leases cannot be canceled once signed, notorized and returned to our office. If you need to leave in the middle of the contract, please contact us as soon as possible. If we have a wait list, we will fill the space for you. If the wait list is exhausted, you will need to find another full time CSUSM student to fill your space or continue paying on your contract until completed.

Can I request an apartment or roommates?
Yes, but a request does not guarntee a roommate or an apartment. We do our best to match roommates, but their contracts must be the same along with other requests (themed living, etc.)
You may request a roommate and apartment when you fill out your lease.

Can I use my financial aid?
Students who receive financial aid DO NOT have it directly applied to their housing. They must request it and then pay University Village when they receive their financial aid check. All students are required to make their first monthly installment regardless if financial aid has been paid out yet.

When can I move in?
The anticipated move in date for Fall 2009 is Saturday August 29, 2009. Classes begin Monday August 31st. We have a full week of welcome week activities scheduled for you!

Is parking available?
Parking fees are not collected though UVA, but go through the parking services office on campus. Cost per 2007/8 semester is $248. For questions about permits, please call 760-750-7500.
Cal State San Marcos has changed parking permit rules recently. All CSUSM permits cost the same and look the same. However lots O, K and N are the only overnight parking lots available on campus.

How close to campus are you?
UVA is the only Cal State San Marcos Housing available. Some classes are held within our housing community, and the library and academic classes are just at the top of the steps. A campus shuttle also transports students around campus and picks up at our front door.

What types of apartments/rooms are available?
UVA has three types of rooms:
1. Private Rooms - private bedroom in our 4 bedroom 2 bath apartment.
2. Large Shared Rooms - 2 students in one large bedroom with a total of 4 students in the apartment.
3. Small Shared Rooms - 2 students sharing a small bedroom with lofted beds in our 4 bedroom 2 bath apartment. There are 6 students sharing the apartment total.
Floor plan layouts can be seen on the main page under the floor plans tab.
Leases are available for an academic year or for a year around period. Please note that a limited amount of academic year contracts are available each year. Due to high demand for housing at UVA the last 25% of applicants, only year around contracts will be available.
All apartments come fully furnished and include a full kitchen, and common living room.
We also have apartments with custom features for students with disabilities. Please ask if we can provide any accommodation for you. We do not have private studio apartments, apartments for families, or allow pets on campus.
In February 2009, we will begin accepting Resident Advisor applications and begin the election to the RHC board. RHC is the student government and activity board of UVA. One great reason to be involved in RHC is that elected RHC officers are guaranteed spaces in UVA and will have first pick on the location of their room.

What is the UVA housing application process?
Step 1. Apply to CSUSM
Step 2. Apply to University Village Apartments. Apply early! If you wait to apply for housing until you are accepted into CSUSM you may not get a space. In 2008 we had over 500 applicants on our waitlist.
Step 3. Once you have received your acceptance into CSUSM, you must put in your intent to enroll through CSUSM at www.csusm.edu
Our housing is limited to 620 students, so we can only offer a License Agreement to students who have completed their intent to enroll into CSUSM.
Back Up Top
Can I upgrade my room type?
Possibly. Everyone who did not get their preferred room type will automatically be placed on a wait list, based on their completion date of their application. Again, the application process includes application to housing and intent to enroll into CSUSM. Whichever date is last, is your place on the wait list. We will call you if your preference opens up.

Can I change my contract length from Year Round to Academic Year?
Possibly. Everyone who did not get their preferred contract length will automatically be placed on a wait list, based on their completion date of their application. Again, the application process includes application to housing and intent to enroll into CSUSM. Whichever date is last, is your place on the wait list. We will call you if your preference opens up. The last 25% of license agreements available are only for the year round, as the academic year spaces have all been filled.
There are some things the student can do to help get out of their contract. They can post ads, flyers, use the Student Life and Leadership department on campus, talk with their classmates, roommates and network in the UVA community to find another CSUSM student to take over their license agreement. Once the student finds someone to take over their license agreement both students must stop into the Accounts Manager office at UVA. You may not "sublet" your space. The new resident must sign a license agreement with UVA.
