What do I need to hook up my computer to the internet?

Students must provide their own computer and purchase a 10BaseT ethernet workstation interface card and category 5 patch cord.
For technology related help, students can contact the University HelpDesk. The HelpDesk is available 365 days a year around the clock at 852-7997 or via email at helpdesk@louisville.edu.
It is encouraged that all students go to the Univeristy of Lousville Student User's guide for a list of all IT policies.

Can additional furniture be brought into the apartment?

We want our residents to make their apartment a home. Residents are more than welcome to bring furniture in or to temporarily remove furniture. It is, however, the student's responsibility to store these items and to RETURN any items before they move out. The student will be charged for any missing items.

Yes, all students need a guarantor.

When is my first payment due?

First rent payments are due by August 1st for the fall and December 15th for the spring.

At this time we are not offering any rent discounts.

What size are the beds?

The beds are extra long twin - 80". You can purchase bedding at many home stores such as Bed, Bath & Beyond, Target, WalMart, JCPennys, and many others.

Will you send me a bill each month for rent?

No, we do not send a bill for rent. We do encourage every resident to look over their lease agreement and become familiar with the payment due dates. We also post fliers in designated areas of the property, place reminders in the monthly newsletter, and post a reminder on a marker board near the front door for residents to see as they enter the building.

Do I have to have a meal plan?

Yes, residents of Herman and Heddy Kurz Hall are required to take the university meal plan. Upperclassman have the option of taking either the partial or full meal plan, but it is mandatory for first-time freshman to take the full meal plan.

How many people live there?

There are 402 residents that occupy Herman and Heddy Kurz Hall. Their class status ranges from freshmen to graduate students.

How much more does it cost to stay here than on campus?

Costs vary depending on the hall, room type, and floor plan, so it is difficult to give an exact cost difference between traditional housing and Herman and Heddy Kurz Hall.

When do I put down a deposit?

A nonrefundable $150 service is due when the application is turned in.

Can I pay my bill with a credit card? Is there an extra charge?

All residents may pay with credit card through our NEW Credit Card service. This is located in Residents only section and is located under Credit Card Billing.

What utilities are included in my rent?

Rent is all inclusive at Herman and Heddy Kurz Hall. This means that there are no utility charges! Water, electric, phone, cable and internet services are all provided to the resident at no additional cost.
Phone services include caller ID, call waiting, and voice mail.
Internet is provided through an Ethernet service.

Is parking available?

Herman and Heddy Kurz Hall provides parking in the large lot that surrounds the building. There is always adequate parking to meet everyone's needs. A yellow parking pass must be purchased from the university parking office in order to park in the lot.

Can I request an apartment or roommates?

Yes. We try our best to accommodate our residents apartment assignment request. If a resident wishes to room with certain people, it should be indicated on the back of their application. Herman and Heddy Kurz Hall will only honor mutual roommate requests. If a change occurs after the initial application has been turned in, a resident can call the office at (502) 854-9011 to make a new request. However, the closer it gets to move-in, it becomes more difficult to accommodate these requests so any requests cannot be guaranteed.

When can I move in?

The apartments are opened year around and may be occupied on the first day of the lease term. For the Fall semester, this is usually the middle of August and approximately one week prior to the beginning of classes. For the Spring semester, this is the beginning of January, and for the Summer semester, it is usually the middle of May.

What if I need to cancel my lease?

Just like with any other housing facilities, the lease for Herman and Heddy Kurz Hall is a binding contract. However, if a special circumstance arises then a resident may fill out a lease cancellation form and turn it in to the front desk. This form does not guarantee that the resident will be released from his/her lease agreement.
Another option is to find another student to sub-lease the remainder of the lease agreement. Herman and Heddy Kurz Hall will not find another student to sub-lease for a resident; it is the resident's responsibility to find someone.

Can I use my financial aid?

Residents are permitted to use their financial aid towards their rent at Herman and Heddy Kurz Hall. Proof of aid on your student account must be reflected on your student account or you will need to submit proof to our office indicating the amount you will be awarded. Please contact Christy Hoelscher for specific questions related to the application of your financial aid.

How close to campus are you?

Herman and Heddy Kurz Hall is on-campus on the northwest side of the university. All University of Louisville facilities are located just short walking distance away!

What types of apartments/rooms are available?

There are four room types available at Herman and Heddy Kurz Hall.
**DOUBLE rooms include two suites connected by a bathroom. The suites each house two students and include two beds, two desks with chairs, and a microfridge.
**There are two types of DELUXE DOUBLE rooms. The first type includes one suite that houses two students. It includes a private bathroom along with two beds, two desks with chairs, and a microfridge. The other Deluxe Double shares a bathroom with a single room but it considerably larger.
**SINGLE rooms house one student and include a bed, desk and chair, and a microfridge. It shares a bathroom with a deluxe double room.
**DELUXE SINGLE rooms house one student and include a private bathroom, a bed, desk and chair, and a microfridge. It offers complete privacy.

What types of leases are available?

We offer 9 month, 12 month, spring, and summer leases. 9 month leases are limited and will be accepted on a first come basis.

Rates are now available for the 2008-2009 Leasing Season! Residents of Herman and Heddy Kurz Hall will also be required to take the university meal plan.
