What does a CA/RA do?

A CA/RA is under direct supervision of the Community/Resident Director. CA/RA's are expected to comply with all reasonable requests of the CD/RD and other management personnel. CA/RA's are student members of the staff who work closely with residents in their buildings. As a staff member, he/she works to maintain communications between management and residents and assists in a multitude of administrative tasks. One of the most important CA/RA responsibilities is to be available to, and spend time with, all residents in their building. Other roles include, but are not limited to: Being an active programmer, encouraging involvement, observing academic load and grade standards, be an effective role model, be a fair and consistent disciplinarian.

What are the minimum requirements?

A CA/RA must have at least a 2.5 GPA (on a 4.0 scale). Also, the applicant must be at least a part-time college student. Another minimum requirement to consider is time commitment; as a CA/RA you must be available to work 15 hours per week.

What are the benefits of being a CA/RA?

There are many benefits of being a CA/RA. This job enables you to meet and connect with peers in the community and form meaningful relationships with your neighbors. Working in a structured office environment is a perfect resume builder as many of the tasks performed in the office are customer service oriented. As a CA/RA, you will learn responsibility and time management skills, as well as gain maturity and learn how to deal with difficult situations.

Am I required to work during the summer?

As a CA/RA, you are required to work during the summer. We conduct a "Turning Over" of the apartments for the new residents during the first couple of weeks in August every year. During this period, you are required to be present for work with no option to ask for time off.
